Introducing the new Audi A6 in Devon & Somerset with Silver Street Automotive
Our latest model doesn’t just feature new technology, it’s designed to enhance the whole experience of driving. As you read on, you’ll start to get a feel for some of the intuitive options that help it to make light work of any journey, like night vision assistant, head-up display, Wi-Fi and the MMI Touch system.
The A6 offers a high level of specification as standard, including SD card-based Satellite Navigation with 6.5” colour display. And there’s also a choice of innovative engines: 3.0 TDI, 3.0 TFSI and the economical 2.0 TDI, which can emit just 129g/km of CO2 and achieve a remarkable 57.6 mpg.
Lightweight construction
We’ve worked hard to ensure that the new Audi A6 is as light as it can be. Parts of its doors, bonnet, tailgate and wings are constructed with a combination of aluminium and steel, reducing its weight by up to 80kg. It’s one of the reasons that the A6 can negotiate corners so smoothly, remaining perfectly balanced at all times.
Not only does this design mean you’ll experience better handling, it also has a significant impact on both fuel consumption and emissions. And we’ve developed new technologies to improve efficiency still further. These include Recuperation, which recovers energy used while braking to recharge the battery as you drive.
Driver assistants
The A6 does everything it can to improve your vision at night. Adaptive Xenon headlights available as an option follow the direction of the road so your path ahead is always properly lit. On darkened roads, full beam headlights are automatically activated, then switched off as soon as another car approaches. And if you combine adaptive Xenon headlights with MMI Navigation Plus, the alignment of your lights will automatically change to the other side of the road when you cross the channel. There is also the optional night vision assistant, which uses thermal imaging to spot things your headlights can’t pick out.
When an animal or person is close by, it will highlight them in yellow on a screen located within the Driver’s Information System. If they move on to the road and become a hazard, they’ll appear in red and an alarm will sound. Thanks to the night vision assistant’s 300 metre range, you can be sure you’ll have plenty of time to slow down.
Head-up display
In some cars you can find yourself looking in all directions for the information you need. You could glance down to check your speed, or you might look across at a navigation system to check your route. The new Audi A6 lets you see these things in one place while you continue looking directly at the road ahead.
It’s because the optional head-up display projects details like the speed limit, current speed, navigation instructions and warning messages onto a specially-fitted windscreen. This colour image is perceived to be 2/2.5 metres ahead, so you can continue focusing on the road. The head-up display is height-adjustable and you can also fine-tune the brightness. Not only does it increase safety, it makes driving altogether more straightforward.
MMI Touch
An integral part of the optional MMI Navigation Plus system is MMI Touch. This technology allows you to write commands with your finger on to a sensor, giving you all the control you need in a single place. It’s pre-programmed to read a vast range of handwriting styles, in whatever language you choose, so you have instant control over your music, phone contacts and navigation system.
MMI Navigation Plus features a topographical map display with places of interest and town models in 3D. You can use MMI Touch to scroll along your selected route and manoeuvre within the map, while destinations can be entered using either the touchpad or voice commands. It means you can use the system with the minimum of distraction from the road ahead.
Wi-Fi
When you’re on the move, we think the internet should move with you. It’s why the new Audi A6 is available with Wi-Fi connectivity when you select MMI Navigation Plus with Mobile Telephone Preparation High. While it’s a feature you may not notice right away, it can make a big difference by enabling you to access all the latest weather, news and travel information as you need it.
It also allows a full internet connection, so that you can use your laptop in the same way you would at home or work. This makes it possible to check mail wherever you are and even stream music to your audio system using wireless technology. When used with MMI Navigation Plus, the system will find Google Earth images for more realistic navigation, while providing access to Wikipedia for extra information on places of interest.
This is what we mean by enhanced driving: a lightweight design, fuel-efficient engines, advanced driver assistance and a high level of technology as standard.
