The More Fuel Efficient Audis

Introducing the new range of A6 engines – that redefine the meaning of power and efficiency.

These new engines are 12 percent more efficient on average than their predecessors. The latest additions include the new 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 which delivers an impressive 290PS, and a range of ultra-efficient diesel engines, all of which have been extensively revised to minimize fuel consumption and Co2.

Ultra-efficient and clean – the e-model engine
The new A6 2.0 TDIe model achieves headline-grabbing CO2 figures of just 139 g/km. This is because of a combination of advanced features including brake energy recuperation, a highly efficient ‘Varioserv’ power steering pump, low-resistance tyres, lowered sports suspension and longer transmission ratios. There’s also a gear change indicator to help you choose the most efficient gear for your speed.

Sporty efficiency – the TDI engines
The Audi A6 TDI engines use a state-of-the-art common rail system. Piezo injectors force the diesel fuel into the combustion chamber at pressures of up to 1,800 bar. Two intercoolers arranged in parallel provide power that is delivered spontaneously and energetically. This means active power reserves and superb flexibility with low fuel consumption.

Dynamic and agile – the petrol engines:
The highly efficient FSI® combustion process has already been applied in motor-racing at Audi. This performance-orientated petrol direct injection system not only delivers dynamic responsiveness and agility at all engine speeds, but is also more fuel-efficient as a result of the regulated fuel injection. The proof of this is to be found in the 3.0 TFSI® engine in the Audi A6. The 213 kW (294PS) V6 engine accelerates the A6 from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds, and with perfectly reasonable fuel consumption figures. The supercharger enables the engine to develop all of its power even at low engine speeds, which you can utilise to best effect thanks to quattro® and the sporty tiptronic transmission.

Fuel consumption and emissions data:
Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro: combined fuel consumption 29 mpg; combined CO2 emissions 225 g/km.

Audi A6 2.7 TDI tiptronic quattro: combined fuel consumption 40 mpg; combined CO2 emissions 189 g/km.

Audi A6 3.0 TDI tiptronic quattro: combined fuel consumption 40 mpg; combined CO2 emissions 189 g/km.

The Audi A8 - Features in "What Car? magazine Green Awards 2008"

The Audi A8 has been given the accolade of ‘Most Efficient Luxury Car’ at the What Car? Green Awards 2008. In their September edition they had the following to say about the most eco-friendly luxury car that you can buy:

"Most luxury cars are motoring heavyweights — big, brash and packing a serious punch. The Audi A8 is different. By taking a more featherweight approach it wipes the canvas with all other contenders — in the eco-friendly stakes at least. First off, the all-aluminium body means a significant saving in weight — a crucial element in cutting emissions.

Our chosen A8 also has an efficient 2.8-litre V6 direct-injection petrol engine that emits CO2 at a rate of just 199 g/km, a 11 g/km advantage over others in its class. NOx emissions are also low and, since it’s petrol, you don’t have to worry about particulates.

Welcome to the most eco-friendly luxury car you can buy

The cabin is massive, so you’ll be able to stretch out in supreme comfort. The boot is cavernous and well shaped, and nobody does interiors quite like Audi. There are also electrically adjustable leather seats, plus climate control, a CD multi-changer, keyless entry and satellite-navigation with voice control. Its impressive safety roster includes stability control, sophisticated brakes, eight airbags and active anti-whiplash head restraints.

The A8 is a joy to drive, too. The standard air suspension has four settings that let you tailor the car’s set-up depending on your needs. Road noise is virtually absent; it’s only when you concentrate that you can hear the wind fluttering over the windscreen. Performance is surprisingly sprightly: the 0-62mph sprint is done and dusted in 8.0 seconds."
