The Golf 1.2 TSI has the power

The legendary Golf hatchback is now available with a 1.2 TSI engine. 

This new engine size offers the performance of a 1.6-litre engine without the bigger fuel bills which inturn helps with its green credentials.  As always, you can expect a fun driving experience with the excellent build quality that naturally comes with the Volkswagen badge.

The 1.2-litre turbo engine is smooth, lively and feels much quicker than the 10.6 second 0.62 mph time suggests.   It's a sweet-sounding, flexible motor that's perfect for quick getaways in the city and will not leave you high and dry when overtaking on B-roads. It's wonderfully refined and is absolutely the perfect motor for this car.

This is a new engine for the Golf range. Its 104bhp maximum output will take you from 0-60mph in just 10.6 seconds, which is impressive, and although it's not a huge on power it still feels very relaxed on the motorway.

It's frugal too: it'll return an average of just under 50mpg and the tax burden won't be to onerous either - CO2 emissions of 134g/km put it in VED Band D.

As always with Volkswagen, the equipment is good - a CD player, air con, ESP, electric windows and mirrors and the six-speed manual gearbox are all standard.
